2012-13 Academic Realignment Proposal

2012-13 Academic Realignment Proposal

11 April 2012 | Published in: District News

Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, Daniel P. McGarry, presented a proposal for an Academic Realignment Plan for the 2012-13 school year at the April 10, 2012 school board meeting.

The proposal is to realign and reframe the elementary school schedule and programming, the middle school schedule and programming, and the district supervisory positions, and to eliminate two administrative positions.

The Academic Realignment Plan proposes the following changes for the 2012-13 school year:

  • Elimination of elementary related arts classes:  art, music, library, and physical education - instead, related arts instruction will occur within the existing core curriculum.
  • Implementation of a rotating block schedule at BHMS, the same block schedule that currently exists at DHMS
  • Elimination of middle school foreign language and technology classes - some of the technology content will be incorporated into current computer education classes.
  • Implementation of character education classes at the middle school level.
  • Modification of district supervisory positions and a reduction from 13 district supervisors to 4.
