Educational Specifications

In the spring of 2015, the Educational Specifications Committee made a presentation to the School Board proposing changes to our facilities to enhance the academic experiences of our students in the 21st century.  This proposal includes renovations to existing buildings as well as the construction of a new administrative building and a new elementary school in the first phase of the Ed Specs plan.  Additionally, the Committee proposed a change in programming to offer full day kindergarten by the year 2020.  The presentation to the School Board can be found by clicking here.

In September of 2015, Superintendent Dunlap and members of his administrative team visited every school's Home and School meetings and every school's faculty meetings to share the Ed Specs Plan with the UDSD staff and community.  The presentation to the parents and staff can be found by clicking here.

The School Board hired an architect of record (AOR), Bonnett Associates, to develop the scope of the projects and, therefore, help to assign hard costs to them.  A detailed Facility Report is expected at the end of July 2016.  The report will be reviewed thoroughly by both the School Board and administration.  The School Board will then hold public meetings, in addition to regularly scheduled Board and Committee Meetings, to facilitate discussion in the community and obtain feedback on the potential projects.  Dates for any public meetings will be publicized on the district website and in Parentlink messages home to our families when they are established.  The timeline originally proposed by the Committee has been delayed, but the Board feels it is important to gather the facts of the Facility Study and the opinions of the community in order to assess the community's values before moving ahead with any projects.  Though there may be some aspects of the plan that the Board may move forward with prior to public meetings,  no money will be bonded/borrowed until the projects have been communicated with the community and the Board has voted to finalize all plans.
