Title I

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965 is the largest federally funded education program.  These funds, which are administered by the state, are targeted to high poverty schools and districts.  The Title I funds are used to provided educational services in reading/language arts and math to students in seven of the district’s schools.  In addition, a portion of the Title I grant supports services for nonpublic students and parents who reside in the district’s geographic area.  The following seven schools receive Title I funds:

Beverly Hills Middle School

Bywood Elementary School

Charles Kelly Elementary School

Highland Park Elementary School

Senkow Elementary School

Stonehurst Hills Elementary School

Upper Darby High School

Title I Parent Involvement

The Upper Darby Title I Parent Involvement Policy embraces the beliefs that parents are partners.   The district recognizes that parental involvement contributes to the achievement of academic standards by students participating in Title I programs.

Upper Darby School District invites all parents to become involved in their child’s education by taking part in the school’s Home and School Association and as a parent in our classrooms. To promote meaningful parent communication and participation, our teachers and staff will communicate with our parents in several ways:  by telephone, Global Connect, email, in person, and in Wednesday folders. We will host several community events throughout the school year to increase parental involvement and to build solid relationships with the school staff and our families. In addition, there will be an annual parent meeting to update the current Parent Involvement Policy.  Parents of Title I students will be asked to complete a survey at the end of each school year as a way to give input concerning parent involvement activities and the implementation of the Title I Program for the next year.

Each Title school receives an annual financial allocation from the school district to promote parental involvement and to provide funds for parent workshops. Title Principals are available for consultation and welcome parental input in determining how to best use these funds to support their involvement in the academic success of their children.
