ASSESSMENTS(tests, quizzes and projects) 70%

HOMEWORK 10%

CURRICULUM: ANCIENT HISTORY

UNIT 1- EVOLUTION OF HUMANITY

The evolution from ape to man/woman and the many changes that occurred. Key turning points in our evolution(fire, use of tools)will be studied. As well as the migration of humans around the planet.

UNIT 2- HUNTERS AND GATHERERS AND THE FIRST CIVILIZATIONS(Mesopotamia)

The change from hunting and gathering to farming and the beginning of civilizations will be studied. We will discuss in detail the Sumerians and Babylonians and their contributions to the modern world.

UNIT 3- EGYPTIANS

The contributions of the Ancient Egyptians will be studied. These include engineering principles(pyramids and temples), religion(polytheistic religions), as well as the use of the chariot in warfare.

key words: social structure, culture, status, irrigation systems, technology 

UNIT 4- GREECE

The contributions of the Ancient Greeks will be studied. These include government(first democracy), science, religion, language and mathematics. We will also study the influence the Ancient Greeks had on all civilizations who followed them.
