• Week of 10/15/19 to 10/18/19

     

    Community Service for October: TREATS FOR CHOP- We are collecting individually wrapped, snack-sized candy for the Ronald McDonald House, which provides a home for families and children being treated at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Our candy donations will help these kids and their siblings have a fun Halloween away from home filled with sweet treats. We will begin collecting Wednesday, October 2. Students can bring their donations to their LA class. Thank you in advance for participating in our first community service project. Friday, October 25 will be the last day for the candy donations so that the treats can be delivered to the Ronald McDonald House in time for trick or treating. Thanks so much for your support.

     

    Breakfast for Your Head book report project is due October 30. The step by step directions are in last week's assignments. Plan ahead. This date is firm. NO LATE projects since the marking period is ending.

    ASAP- Progress reports signed and returned. Spelling and Vocab Tests signed and returned (please do not give back your whole packet of work, just the tests). CORRECTIONS available to earn back some points!! Spelling corrections = write the word 3x's. Vocab Corrections = write the vocab word with the correct definition. MUST return signed tests to get points back.

You must have 4 entries to get the 10 points. When you fill the log (which will take about a month), you receive a Pizza Hut certificate for a free personal pan pizza.

    Thanks so much to all the students of 102 who participated in our community service project in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.. Students made over 125 bagged lumches for the homeless in our community. When delivered after school the shelter was so very grateful for our efforts. Way to care!

    Due Wednesday "Create Your Own Homework " Project-- students should have completed this project in class as we worked on it beginning last Tuesday using our Chromebooks.Students shared with me on Google and I printed them out.  I will provide the report covers for the students to          display their work.

                        Community Service project: Students will make bagged lunches. They will decorate the bag, write a note and make the lunch. Lunches will be delivered to our local homeless shelters. 

    Room 102 Day of Service honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

     Dear Parents/Guardians,

    On Friday, January 18, 2019, room 102 LA classes will be participating in a community service project honoring Martin Luther King Day. The students will be making bagged lunches consisting of a cheese/baloney sandwich, cookies, and fruit. The students will decorate the bags and include a note. The bagged lunches will be donated to the Life Center which provides services for the homeless in our community.

     In addition, the Life Center has a constant need for used towels and washcloths as well as men’s and women’s toiletries (travel size soap, toothpaste, lotions, shampoo, etc.). If you are able to donate any of these items please send them into school, and they will be delivered along with the lunches.

  • Happy New Year 

    I hope you had a wonderful holiday and winter break. Hopefully this short week will help everyone adjust to being back on a school schedule. It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of the secong marking period and first semester. This is a good time to get organized and restock your supplies. Be sure to have your notebook, folder and pencils in class every day. Along with the tools of a successful student, be sure to have your best effort. Complete all of your assignments on time. Choose challenge! 

    Progress reports are coming this Friday. Be sure to check all of your classes and your grades on the HAC. Stay on top of your school work. Keep on reading!

    Create Your Own Homework assignment is coming next week. Start thinking of a topic or subject that you want to learn about.

  • Week of 12/17/18 to 12/21/18

    ALL MAKE UP OR PAST DUE WORK IS DUE BY THIS FRIDAY 12/21/18. For the last month I have been requesting all past due work from all of my students. I have encouraged students to use their progress reports to mark what they were missing or go on HAC. Then go on my website for the past due  homework or come to see me after school.  Many students have come to me for their work and many have not. 

    LAST CHANCE -ALL IS WORK IS DUE BY FRIDAY.

    Winter Wonderland is Wednesday. Our cinquian poem is the ticket in for hot chocolate, snacks and snowflakes.

    No new homework was assigned this week. No Reading Log was due. Students need to continue reading ove break. They are able to fill in their logs and get points when we return to school

    School is dismissed at 11:20 on Friday, December 21. Our Winter Rewards Day is Friday for all our students on status. If you are off status you will be staying back in class during these events.

Do not forget the library is a great place to be this summer as there are a ton of books to read as well as super activities to participate in.

    The Playwrights of 102 Celebrating Black History Month! The students will be honoring individuals that have been an important part of our history. Each student will choose a person to "become" then research their lives. The students will work with partners or groups and will create short plays. The groups will be presenting them in class.       Breakfast For Your Head- Book Report Project

       After reading a fiction book, complete the following project. Check off each item in the list as you complete it.

       

      _____ 1. Cover an empty cereal box with paper.

       

      _____ 2. Design the front panel of the box. Include the following information: the book’s title, the author’s name, an illustration, a summary sentence about the book, and your own name.

       

      _____ 3. On one side panel of the box, list some of the story’s ingredients. Include the setting, main characters with descriptions, conflict, climax, elements of plot, etc.

       

      _____ 4. On the opposite side panel, write some “notable quotables” from the book. These are excerpts that will make others want to read the book.

       

      _____ 5. On the back panel, create a game that includes important facts about the characters. Your game should teach the player about the book.

       

      _____ 6. Put a surprise toy inside the box. The toy should represent some aspect of the book.
