This elective is is serve as an overview of the US Criminal and Civil legal systems. The goals of this course are to empower students to think critically and solve problems, develop the knowledge and skills necessary to understand and contribute to the legalsystem, and instill a reverance for human rights and justice in the particpants. This ninety-day course is divided into units on the United States Constitution, Criminal Law, and Civil Law.
Students will gain an understanding of essential aspects of the Justuce System, and good citizenship in a Democratic society through guest speakers, videos, and peer simulations of court cases (Mock Trials). Active participation will be necessary for students to gain a full understanding of the concepts of the course.We hope to have the students of this course enter into the full year course of Youth Court next year.
