Opportunity, Unity and Excellence Through Equity
-
The Upper Darby School District recognizes that a commitment to equity is an ongoing, daily practice that must be implemented with fidelity and authenticity by all members of the organization.
Deep Equity is a comprehensive and systemic professional development process aimed at producing the deep personal, professional, and organizational transformations that are necessary to create equitable places of learning for all of our nation’s children. The mission of the Office of Equity is to address persistent educational and opportunity gaps faced by students based on race, ethnicity, gender, language, or disability. Our Office seeks to increase the cultural competency of teachers and staff, access to high-quality instruction, and access to culturally-relevant curriculum content. Our office also seeks to strengthen the District's equity lens in its analysis of the impact of policy and practice on historically underserved, underrepresented, and marginalized individuals and groups and resulting barriers and roadblocks to success. Our office seeks to support the District in its pursuit of the application of the fundamental principles of democracy for all students and supports the fight for fair funding to create well-resourced schools for all of our students.
The Supervisor of Equity provides leadership and support in creating an equitable, diverse, inclusive, and empowering school and work culture and engaging families. The Supervisor is responsible for assessing and cultivating equity to enhance the educational experience for all students in the Upper Darby School District and works with school and District leaders to promote equitable practices throughout the District. The Supervisor is also tasked with leading equity initiatives at all levels of the organization, including increasing teacher workforce diversity, and retention of staff and reduction of educator turnover, professional development for staff, curriculum and instruction, instructional practices, safety, school culture and climate, student discipline, technology and digital access, transportation, and other programs and services that impact student life.
