An Important Announcement from the Superintendent
-
February 8, 2023
I wanted to provide you with some important information. Over the past several years, the Upper Darby Board of School Directors, local State Representatives, Senators, student leaders, parent groups, administrators, and public school advocates have worked tirelessly to support the fair and equitable funding of public education in the Commonwealth. I have some exciting news to share with you about Fair Funding in Pennsylvania.
It is so exciting to announce that there has been a ruling on the Fair Funding Lawsuit in Pennsylvania. Judge Renee Cohn Jubelirer, who presided over the Fair Funding Lawsuit, recently ruled that Pennsylvania's school funding system is broken and ultimately unconstitutional. While the actual decision and plan to better fund public schools in Pennsylvania has yet to be finalized, this historical ruling provides us with the hope that the Upper Darby School District will receive fair and equitable funding. We will continue to provide all of you with updates on this very important information. We do not yet know when or if this funding will be realized any time soon. I have provided a link to the ruling for your review: Fair Funding Opinion/Ruling.
Daniel P. McGarry, Ed.D.
