Welcome to the Kindergarten Center

I am looking forward to working with all of you to ensure that the year is a healthy one! Our students learn their best when their health is at its best.

 I would like to take this opportunity to review basic health policies and screening schedules;

       Students are required to provide immunizations in accordance to Pa Health Department.  A physical and dental exam by your child's health care providers are required this school year.  Forms are available on the school website or in the Health Office.

       All students in kindergarten will be screened for height/weight (BMI), vision and hearing.  Referrals will be sent home as needed.

       Pa State, Board of Education and the Upper Darby School district require parental and physician written consent for administration of medication during school hours.  This includes over-the counter medication.  Medication must be provided to the nurse in the original labeled container.  Consent is good for one school year.  School policy requires written physician and parental consent for students who self-administer inhalers or EPI-Pens.  Consent forms are available on the school website or in the Health Office.

       Please advise me if your child has any contagious diseases, major illness, has come in contact with or been exposed to someone who tested positive with COVID-19, or any surgery throughout the school year.  In many cases a doctor's note will be required for your child to return to school.  A doctor's note is required if it is necessary for your child to ambulate with the assistance of crutches.

       As per the CDC, Chester County Health Department and school policy, all students with a Temporal fever of >99.5 will be sent home.  They may not be return to school until they are fever free for 24 hours without the use of Tylenol, Motrin, etc.  Students with active vomiting or gastrointestinal problems will be sent home and may not return to school until their problem has been resolved for 24 hours.  Our policy is enforced to promote the well-being of all students and staff members.

       Please update your phone numbers on your child's emergency site as necessary.  It is very important that we have the ability to contact you or any other designated person at all times.

       Also, this is Kindergarten so please put a complete set of clothes for your child in a plastic bag in the front pocket of his/her school bag.  Accidents of all kinds happen when least expected.

       Thank you in advance for your cooperation.  Please feel free to contact me regarding any health concerns throughout the school year.

Yours Respectfully in Health,

Nancy Casey, RN
