Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Anne Pickett
Welcome to fifth grade Learning Support at Stonehurst Hills Elementary School. This year marks my 13th year of teaching special education at Stonehurst Hills. I am thrilled to be a teacher in the Upper Darby School District. I am proud to be a 1976 graduate of Upper Darby and have taught at both the elementary and high school levels. My three children are also graduates of Upper Darby and one of my children currently teaches at the high school level.
I have been very fortunate to have the opportunity to teach learning support students throughout the years. I meet with my students on a daily basis in small groups, one-on-one, and in the general education classrooms in a large class environment. I currently teach math RTI, reading RTI, and small group reading instruction. I design instruction around my student's individual needs and the needs that are outlined in their IEPs. This allows me the chance to get to know each of my students personally and differentiate my instruction to fit their needs on a daily basis. I also have the opportunity to meet with their parents during the annual IEP meeting and school-wide conferences which are held twice each year.
Being a fifth grader in elementary school is a very exciting year for my students as they prepare to transition to the middle school level. The five fifth grade general education teachers work carefully to prepare them for the next phase in their education and also plan exciting field trips throughout the year. They visit the Philadelphia Art Museum, Valley Forge National Park, and attend shows at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center during the year. The fifth grade also has student council elections and each candidate has the opportunity to speak to the student body concerning how they would like to make a difference at Stonehurst. In June, everyone looks forward to the final assembly of the year as the fifth graders transition to the middle school and anticipate their exciting summer vacation.
Feel free to e-mail me at any time concerning your children. I look forward to working with them and getting to know you. Contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
