Degrees and Certifications:
Mrs. Joan Sciarrino
I am extremely excited to be starting my 10th year teaching here at Stonehurst Hills Elementary School. Fifth grade is an exciting year for your child. It is their last year in elementary school. The 5th grade team works hard to make it a memorable time for you and your child. Safety positions, Student Council, and Peer Tutoring are just a few of the privileges/responsibilities that are available for your child to try out for. I will do my best to meet the needs of each individual learner and that often looks different for each student. Last year I introduced flexible seating in my classroom and the students absolutely loved it. In order for this to be a successful experience, the students MUST take ownership of their learning environment. This teaches them to be responsible for their own belongings, as well as their classroom environment as a whole. The students learn to share with their peers and to be mindful of each others each individual learning style. This flexible seating arrangement is given freely to each student at the beginning of the year and is a continually earned privilege. I had a great amount of success with my trial run of this last year and a significant change occurred in the room as far as behavior and attention to lessons. I firmly believe that an open line of communication between myself, the student and the parent is the key to a successful year. I can most easily be reached through email firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone at 610-626-9111. I am super excited to meet you and your child.
