• Beverly Hills Middle School Middle School Intramurals and Clubs

     

     

    Intramural Swimming  (All Grade Levels) - All students are welcome to join one of Beverly Hills most popular intramurals. Students are transported by bus from Beverly Hills at 3:00 to Upper Darby High School and returned to Beverly Hills at 5:10 pm. All students need is a signed permission slip, bathing suit, towel, and change of clothes. Spots fill up quickly so get your permission slip in as soon as possible. There are 4 sessions of swimming; two in the winter and two in the spring. Both seasons have a Tuesday session or a Thursday session. Students will meet in room 28  at 2:45pm.     Marine Fitness Club (All Grade Levels) - Students interested in improving muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, balance, self-confidence, self image, and grit will find the Marine Fitness Club a great opportunity to get some fitness in before the school day begins. The workouts can be intense. Some students may be chosen to compete in the annual Marine Corp Physical Fitness Competition on May ? as the top six athletes from each grade represent BHMS at UDHS.     Intramural Basketball (All Grade Levels) Students interested in health, recreation and some friendly competition are welcome to sign up for intramural basketball. Intramural basketball brings our students together in the gymnasium to improve their skills, self-confidence, self image, and grit. Intramural morning basketball great opportunity to get some fitness in before the school day begins.  Get fit, be fit, and stay fit!     Yearbook Committee (All Grades are invited to Apply) - Students on the Yearbook Committee create the annual yearbook. Duties include making style, layout and cover decisions. Students also play a large role in capturing our school year through pictures and interviews. This is a great way to learn some photography skills, as well as graphic design and desktop publishing.  Students will meet in room 119 every other Tuesday from 2:45-3:30 pm.     CORE Bears (All Grades) - All students are welcome to be part of the Positive Behavior Supports & Interventions (PBIS) Core Bears team. The students will provide suggestions to the Faculty, PBIS Core Committee related to activities/events/fundraisers/student incentives/and other PBIS issues. A student representative will attend each monthly PBIS faculty meeting. Students will meet throughout year.This club runs from 9/17- 6/18. For more information please contact Jen Westrope. *At this time we do not have kids attend staff meetings.  Also, we usually meet during lunch.  It runs all year.  We do not have a set schedule.

     

    Art Club (All Grades) - Students who attend Art Club will gain valuable experience in various art techniques and projects. Emphasis is placed on both exposing students to a wide range of artists and working material, as well as school beautification and school community projects. Students will meet in room 4 on Tuesdays from 2:40-3:30.:  Mrs. Wilson is starting the club a little earlier this year Tuesday, 9/18/18 and the spring one will begin 2/19/19. This year the club will be continuing with the mural project that was started last year as well as teaching the students drawing and painting techniques with individual projects.     TV Studio (8th Grade) - BHMS TV studio meets after school each day from 2:40-3:15 to prepare the next days news for the BHMS Community. Students will learn how to produce, direct and deliver the school news. This is a fun way for our students to explore the communications field. In the past students have gone on trips to local news stations and the Upper Darby High School TV Studio. For more information contact Brandon Schaffer.

     

    Rock Wall (All Grades) - Students will learn the basics and safety procedures of the rock climbing wall.  They will learn to climb and belay other students. Students will meet in the Back Gym on Mondays and Thursdays mornings from 7:15 - 7:50.. The club runs from 9/17-/18. For more information contact Christopher Swope.

     

    Color Guard (All Grades) - Students interested in Color Guard will practice three times per week in order to perform at various parades and band competitions. Students will be expected to be at all rehearsals and performances unless permission to be excused is granted by the instructor. Students will meet in the gym or on the front or back field on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 7:10am-7:50am. This club runs from 9/17-11/17.     Running Club and Brad Schoener 5k (All Grades) - All students are welcome to come out and get fit while having fun! This club is for those who love to run and for those who want to start. We will stretch, run, and cool down while setting goals and learning to push through them. The club will conclude with the Brad Schoener 5K in Drexel Hill. Students will meet on the Track on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30. 

     

    Student Council (All are invited to apply) - Student Council members are selected by program advisors/teachers equally representing all grade levels. Members will demonstrate leadership qualities by exhibiting good behavior through their words and actions. All members are expected to participate in approved activities, which will serve to enhance the environment of our school community. Some of these activities include fundraisers for Alex’s Lemonade Stand and the Annual Food Drive Students will meet on the first Tuesday of the month from 7:30-7:50.     School Musical (All Grades) - Each year, BHMS prepares and presents an “All School Musical.”  The performance will take place March 14th, 15th, & 16th, 2018  at 6:00 p.m. We are proud to have over 150 students participate in our productions each year. The musical is a great opportunity to get involved in our school community. Auditions, Rehearsals, Set Design and Stage Crew Information will be updated in Early November. Students will meet in the auditorium after school 2-3 days per week from 3:15-5:00 and two Saturdays in February and March. For more information contact Barbara Blithe.

     

    Computer Club (All Grades) - Each year BHMS is proud to host an after school club in the library. Students can stop up in the library after school to complete homework on the computer labs, research information for classes or check out a library book. This is a great opportunity for students to complete collaborative projects.  Students can attend this club after school Monday thru Thursday from 2:40 until 3:30 in the library.  For more information contact Pat Wertman.

     

    Dance Club (All Grades)  - Beverly Hills is proud to announce we have started a Dance Club. This club started in the 2016-2017 school year and has gained popularity amongst our student. Student can learn a wide variety of dances as well as perform at the Annual Talent Show, Spirit Days or Assemblies. Students meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays From 2:40-3:30 in the auditorium. The Dance Club runs from in the fall and again in the spring. For more information contact Lora Kelly.

     

    Academic Clubs -

    National Junior Honors Society (8th Grade by invitation only) - Each Year Beverly Hills recognizes it elite 8th grade students by inducting them into National Junior Honors Society. To qualify for the honors society students must demostration all four pillars necessary for induction. The four pillars are Scholarship, Service, Leadership and Integrity. These students are honored at an assembly that will take place on Wednesday December 19th, 2018 in the Historical Brad Schoener Auditorium at 8:30am.     Kodiak Registry (All Grade levels - Must apply)  - This Registry requires an application process each marking period. Students must meet specific requirements to be on the Kodiak registry. These requirements revolve around students grade point average (honor roll/distinguished honor roll), student behavior, attendance and service to the school and/or community. We will host an assembly at the end of each marking period. If students are on the registry for three consecutive marking periods they will be honored at a luncheon at Springfield Country Club. Parents are invited to attend this prestigious event as well as community members, central administration as well as all BHMS teachers. You can apply for the Kodiak Registry by filling out this application and attaching a copy of your grades. All applications should meet deadline requirements and they should be sent to Jen Westrope.
