Highland Park Elementary School's art program offers 40 minutes classes once or twice a week. The Elements and Principles of Art are used when introducing a variety of mediums including: drawing, painting, collage, sculpture, and printing. Interdisciplinary lessons are used to tie the arts in with the school wide curriculum. Art club is extended to all fifth grade students. Our art club is involved in an artist in residency program. Members of the Philadelphia Magic Gardens including famous mosaic muralist Isaiah Zagar are currently working with the art club to construct our own mosaic mural at Highland Park. http://www.philadelphiasmagicgardens.org/
This coming spring there will be an Evening of the Arts, showcasing all the beautiful art students have made throughout the school year. Artwork by the students can be purchased with a frame! Also, look out for the district wide art show this spring.
Highland Park Elementary School art students have their work displayed at Starbucks Coffee Company, 1891 South State Road (across from Bond Shopping Center). Each month different student projects are chosen for display.
Upper Darby's diverse culture gives us, as educators, the perfect opportunity to engage students in embracing all of our students' history and culture. The Upper Darby art educators strive to bring students and community together through student engagement in the arts.
