Desean Jackson is Running Out of Time
Eagles wideout Desean Jackson made headlines on Sunday when the team announced that he would make his long-awaited return to the field. The thirty-two-year-old receiver suffered an abdominal injury in week two against Atlanta and has been sidelined since. After missing six games with the injury, Jackson made his return on Sunday against the Chicago Bears, and it was nothing short of a disaster.
In just 4 snaps, the speedy veteran had just as many pass interference penalties as he did receptions and subsequently exited the game after reaggravating his abdomen.
Going into the season, Desean Jackson was labeled as the missing link to an Eagles team that had super bowl aspirations. Not only did the Eagles relinquish draft capital in order to acquire Jackson, but they also inked him to a three-year extension before he even played a snap-in 2019. The front office showed confidence by investing so much money into an aging star, and to this point, they’ve gotten little to no return on that investment. Despite a strong outing against Washington in the season opener, Jackson has done very little to inspire hope from the fans, and even his fellow teammates. He’s played in just three of a possible nine games this season, leaving two of those games early due to injury.
