Ashwina Gayan Mosakowski

Dr. Ashwina G. Mosakowski serves as the Director of Elementary Education for the Upper Darby School District, bringing more than 20 years of experience as an educator, instructional leader, and advocate for cultural proficiency.
She earned a B.A. in English and French from the University of Mauritius, an M.A. in English Literature from Durham University in the United Kingdom, and an Ed.D. from Widener University. Growing up on the beautiful island of Mauritius, Dr. Mosakowski developed a lasting appreciation for diversity, language, and culture. These values continue to inform her approach to education.
Dr. Mosakowski began her career in 1999 as a French teacher at Penn Wood High School. She later held various leadership positions in the Southeast Delco School District, including assistant principal, principal, and director of curriculum. Most recently, she served in the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District as Director of Teaching, Learning, and Innovation, Coordinator of Federal Programs, and District Lead for Cultural Proficiency.
Her areas of expertise include curriculum development, instructional leadership, and culturally responsive education. She leads with a collaborative spirit, guided by data-informed decision-making and a deep commitment to building strong partnerships with educators, families, and the broader community.
Aligned with the vision of the Superintendent, Dr. Mosakowski is devoted to promoting academic excellence and cultivating a culture of belonging across all elementary schools. Her leadership directly supports the district’s strategic priorities and its mission to meet the diverse needs of every learner.
A proud resident of Delaware County, Dr. Mosakowski is also a devoted wife and mother. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, reading world literature, exploring diverse cultures, and spending time with friends and family in Mauritius whenever possible.
With a passion for educational equity and a heart for service, Dr. Mosakowski looks forward to partnering with Upper Darby’s principals, teachers, administrators, and families to ensure that every student receives the high-quality education they deserve.
