  • In accordance with guidelines established by the Pennsylvania Department of Education, transportation eligibility is determined by a student's grade level, the distance between a student's home and his/her assigned school building, and his/her home's relativity to an eligible walk zone.

School bus transportation is provided to students living outside established eligible walk zones; this means that a student's home exceeds the maximum allowable walking distance, or there is no accessible walking route from a student's home to their school building. The distance is measured from property line to property line. Find the mileage entitlement below:

    • Elementary students — over one (1) mile
    • Middle School students — over one and one-half (1-1/2) miles
    • High School Students — over two (2) miles

These qualifications apply for walking distance to the bus stop as well. Hazardous walking routes and distances have been measured and determined by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

See Safe Routes to School Map for your school to see if your residence is eligible for Transportation services. If you are unsure whether your child is eligible for the school bus, please contact the Transportation department.
